My theory on war, is that war is just a miscommunication between two sides.  “War is what happens when language fails.”  as stated by Margaret Atwood.  War can not happen, unless some sort of communication is misunderstood.  Some say that war is caused by religion, but I believe not.  War can also be caused by uncalled for attacks by other people.  Meaning bombings, terrorist attacks, and other attacks onto the country.  Looking at war from a big picture looks as if there is constant fighting between the contributing fighters, but in fact, there is lots of downtime.  Most people don’t even know why they are fighting.  They are fighting because they are told that the opponent is bad and need to be dealt with.  There are consequences to war as well, mostly life changing effects, and possibly death.  War is most likely not necessary to solve most of the problems that cause war, war is just caused by being impatient about the situation.  Most soldiers who come back from the war have changed faces due to what they have experienced during their time.  It takes years to rebuild their own lives to how it was originally because of all the trauma war has caused them.  For example, loneliness can cause damage to soldiers at war, “These voices, these quiet words, these footsteps in the trench behind me recall me at a bound from the terrible loneliness and fear of death by which I had almost been destroyed” (Remarque 212).   Seeing people die, seeing people get shot, hearing explosions can all cause severe damage to the human brain.  The people in war have no idea what their opponent is like, and if they do know, it could change everything, “if I could know more of them, what their names are, how the live, what they are waiting for, what their burdens are, then my emotion would have an object and might become sympathy.” (Remarque 193). With the idea of war in mind, peace is also a possibility.  Gandhi is a great example of peace.  He did not want to do anything with violence ever.  He would take his own life to prevent war and other aggressive acts.  This is why many people followed Gandhi.  Peace is usually defined as no war.  This is pretty much not possible with how the humans deal with problems.  Majority of the people who participate in war do not even want to participate in war, they are just forced to as a requirement for living in their country.  Although wars do not happen as frequently as they used to, there is always a chance.  War as a theory is a very wide spread topic.  War is caused by many things but mostly caused by a miscommunication in my theory.  If the situation were to be communicated properly, it should be fine without any war.  But instead, a small miscommunication could lead to war and devastating effects on the world.  War could be a chain, once a war starts, allies may join to create a larger war.  Causing even more devastating effects on the world, and on the humans.  All wars end bad, even the smallest of wars.  Gang wars for example cause deaths on people who aren't even gang members.

Is War Justifiable?

War.  Is it justifiable?  What is my theory on war?  Well, I believe that war is just a miscommunication between two sides.  “War is what happens when language fails” (Margaret Atwood).  This must mean that war is caused by some sort of communication being misunderstood and taken differently.  Some say that war is caused by religion, but that is strongly disagreeable as many people have different religious belief as of this current generation.  For most people who are not that well educated in the topic of war, it may seem as just two sides fighting over land.  But there is a whole lot more to war than just that.  Reading All Quiet on the Western Front has greatly changed my perspective on war.  War apart from the terrible combat action, there is tons of downtime.  There are plenty of consequences to war, if you manage to survive, it may have life changing effects on the soldier and if they do not survive, well they sadly do not make it.  According to my theory on war, it must mean that war is not necessary to solve problems, but in fact, with a little more sense, it may be possible without it.  Seeing before-after photos of people at war, there is a very noticeable difference between the two photos.  It takes years, maybe even decades to recover from the trauma caused by war.

Loneliness can also severely hurt the soldier's mind as well, “These voices, these quiet word, these footsteps in the trench behind me recall me at a bound from the terrible loneliness and fear of death by which I had almost destroyed” (Remarque 212).  Being a witness of people dying, suffering, and also hearing explosions can also cause severe damage to the soldier. These fighters have no idea who their opponent is, in fact, they could be nice people they are shooting at.  “-if I could know more of them, what their names are, how they live, what they are waiting for, what their burdens are, then my emotion would have an object and might become sympathy” (Remarque 193).  Peace is practically impossible for humans, as we have evolved to be defensive of ourselves, and to be competitive.  It is just human nature.  Although war is not as common as it used to be, their are several terrorist attacks and possibly gang wars going on which are just as bad as war.  Although the cause of the terrorist attacks and gang wars may be different, it is still very similar to the reason I stated before, a miscommunication.  War has a chaining effect.  Once a war starts, it gets bigger.  Allies join, and cause even more havoc.  Even with all that being said, I believe that war is justifiable.  As humans, it would take centuries for us to develop a system in our brain that actually will tell us that war is not the right way to solve problems.  But as of now, there is nothing that can be done, because of how the human brain works.  So I believe that war is justifiable.

DRAFT 1-2 CHANGES: Draft one was pretty much was a mess.  My ending wasn’t finalized, I also didn’t declare whether I think war is justifiable or not, and everything was just horrible pretty much.  What I did to fix majority was, to fix grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes, and add a proper conclusion and my statement on is war justified or not.

DRAFT 2-3 CHANGES: I was told I should put it in paragraph form so it is cleaner and neater.  There was confusion on the religious part.  Some places are reworded and rephrased, also added some additional support to weak sentences.  Kept strong sentences the same.
